Eep! Want, want, want this Doctor Who spoof starring Rowan Atkinson. Jellybaby, anyone?

It’s the last weekend of the year 2000, and in celebration of the media frenzy that always accompanies the New Year, below is an ever-growing list of “yearend”,”best of” sorts of lists, which I shall endeavour to update all weekend as I find them (see the things I do for you people? Oh, the agony of repetitive musings on the US election and Napster…).

Okay, so I have no problem with MuchMusic bleeping certain words in songs, considering the channel’s target audience and all, but this I found a little silly: In Eminem’s “Real Slim Shady”, the word “antelopes” was blanked out (and the word before it wasn’t). Ungulates are corrupting our children!

Yes! I had $5 and the title of “Queen of all Useless Trivia” riding on my assertion that the guy in the “Who Let the Dogs Out?”-themed Honda commercial is in fact Pat Mastroianni, aka Joey on Degrassi. (Pat/Joey stalkers might want to note that the man has a spotless eBay record.)

Could someone please whip up a few of these Movie-A-Minute condensed reviews for the Golden Globe noms? When they were announced a few weeks ago, I suddenly realized that the only films I’d seen in the theatre all year were Gone in 60 Seconds (insert gagging noise here) and Charlie’s Angels. In any case, I knocked off “Quills” last week, have “Gladiator” and “High Fidelity” sitting on top of the VCR as I type, and have bullied folks into seeing a double feature of “Traffic” and “Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon” next weekend. What was my point? Oh yeah – the Movie-A-Minute summary of The Killer is pretty funny, having a nasty head cold is somehow better when there’s four hours of John Cusack and Russell Crowe to look forward to, and I’m still hip to the latest movies, dammit. Right? Right?!

Apparently collecting punch card voting machines has become all the rage in certain circles (the idle and rich, one assumes). Said one machine-owning man, “Would I take it home (from the office)? No. I probably wouldn’t even take it to a party.” Uh, yeah.. because nothing livens up a party like a good punch card counter! Whee!

CBC’s Infoculture has put their feature “The Genius of David Cronenberg” online. Hey, he’s popular in France, you know.

Can’t… stop.. programming.. Today’s a sick day for me, which entails sitting under a blanket working on my own site instead of someone else’s. In any case, the more astute reader may have noticed that below every post, right next to the permalink, is a comments section. As usual, let me know if anything isn’t working quite the way it should.

Let the games begin! Be the first on your block to have the goods on the new Survivor contestants. (This may not necessarily be a good thing.)

I decided to spend Boxing Day stuffing myself full of chocolate while making totally useless calls with a new cell phone (bring on the stylish tin foil hat!). The current post-Christmas reading is Ambrose Bierce’s “Devil’s Dictionary“, the excellent predecessor to Saul’s “Doubter’s Companion” (a longtime favourite). Today’s holiday movie recommendation is “Quills“, which is both quite clever and features that delightful Joaquin Phoenix with no shir– Wait. Never mind that last bit. Anyway, thus ends the “How I spent my Christmas vacation” post. Hooray for Holidays!
