So, wait, the idea is that I write things here, and then people come and read them? Really? But, what if I, say, take the week off from Pith, and don’t come back until Monday? Oh, you mean the readers will come back on Monday, when I’ve bothered to update? Huh. Ain’t that the darndest thing.

From the Where are they now? file, it’s the Scientology page of Corin Nemec (aka that wily Parker Lewis). “I began the process of taking on this present physical form in February of 1971…” Ooooookay, Corky — time to get someone else to ghostwrite your webpage.

rent dawsons forehead!TNT, the US television station, may start placing digital ads within reruns of Law & Order. Ugh. Anyway, if the big four networks decide to follow suit, I think I know the obvious place to start.

Welcome to my new summer reading list: Fantastic, Visionary, and Esoteric Literature in the 1960s and 1970s. The bibliography includes everything from the Tolkien trilogy to “Flying Saucers are Hostile!”.. I’m not sure that my local megaglobal-bookstore carries the latter title (“Excuse me, but where can I find your 60s UFO propaganda section? Is it by the Starbucks, or the scented candle display?”), but a gal’s gotta dream.

While I’m sort of on the topic, the latest entry in our quest to discover long-winded, personal essays on offbeat topics is PKD, The Unicorn and Operation Mind Control. Any essay that starts out with the sentence, “The mind control problem is fast becoming one of the largest and most menacing faces of that many-headed beast called The Conspiracy,” can’t be all bad.

Have you Buffy fans out there watched the fifth season finale yet? Highly entertaining episode, but I think they’re going to have to add another notch to the Buffy Body Count.

Do you have a love problem, and don’t know where to turn for advice? Ask Sailor V! (Personally, and this may just be me, but if I had my pick of fictional characters to tap for advice the Sailor Scouts would be pretty far down on my list (below Hello Kitty, anyway, and she doesn’t even have a mouth) — but if I had to pick one, it’s Sailor Jupiter all the way, baby. Kickass.)

As I was watching multiple television news items on the fairy penguin sweater story this week, I had to wonder why there were never any photos of the tiny birds wearing their colourful new clothes — it seems like a natural, especially during sweeps month when all news is either shocking and exciting, or human interest-y and cutesey. Anyway, the best photo I could find is of these “penguin mannequins“, which are still pretty damned adorable. (Don’t forget to knit a penguin sweater for the chilly flightless waterfoul in your neighbourhood!)

Okay, brown it is then, partially because of comments from you, dear reader, and partially because I’m too lazy to change it. (Note to co-workers: One more wiseass comment about the colour scheme, and I’m gonna write nasty comments about you in the source code. Oh yeah, I’m bad.)

Hey, I like brown, okay? Sheesh. When I get home, I’m making everything blue again, and I’d better not hear any complaints about it. Now go to your room.

I really meant to have more content today, but I spent my long weekend either obsessively following the Kaycee Nicole debacle, or solving the browser/HTML puzzles found at Majestic-Intel. Maybe we’ll try again tomorrow, yes?
